Post WW2 Lever Lock Pocket Knife

Post WW2 Lever Lock Pocket Knife

£245.00Price

A C. Julius Herbertz of Solingen, Germany pocket knife, best assessed date to the early 1950s based on its dark, hardwoood and brass fittings, blade marked "2" which suggests a model number of the sub 8" category. It measures 7 3/4" with blade extended, 4 1/4" closed. Blade is 3.52" in length, stainless steel of the 440 range and marked Rostfrei. Grips are not overly worn but show great patina as do the brass finials and studs. Not a flick knife, but level lock, this does have a sleek drop point blade with fairly heavy sharpening evidence. That said the spring in the lock is very strong, easy to open and close and no sloppiness to the mechanism or blade - exactly as it should be. With so many switchblades and hunter blade knives out there this is very different. I've only ever seen one other on the market for sale so rarity is telling. I have na creeping suspicion that this is the next generation of development from the Gravity Knives made famous in WW2 by the Fallschirmjager - there are distinct similarities in form if not precisely in size or function. That said, even if not, it's a beautifully crafted and engineered pocket knife.
